CZU Donation Drive

by Avni Hulyalkar

On Saturday, September 26, Los Gatos Key Club participated in the CZU Relief Donation Drive. This event was organized by the Kiwanis Club, and clubs from all over the community were invited to participate, including the K-Kids from Blue Hills, Van Meter, and Daves Elementary. The drive aimed to help the victims of the CZU fires in Santa Cruz County by collecting everyday items, like clothing, sunscreen, and dog food. Camping supplies like tents and sleeping bags were also requested. In the brief two hour period from 9AM - 11AM, five SUVs and a pickup truck were filled with a variety of donated items. These donations were then transported to a FEMA event in Boulder Creek.

President Garrett Yoe and vice president of fundraising Kacey Yoe were both present to see the overflowing boxes and bags filled with goods.  Kacey described the event as “a great way to help people in their time of need while increasing connectivity throughout the entire Kiwanis organization.” Amidst wildfires and a pandemic, it’s heartening to know that people continue to make an effort to lend support when the call comes.

Volunteers were able to work around the restrictions of quarantine by holding a little to no contact drive, wearing masks, and keeping safe regulations. Looking forward, LG Key Club hopes to participate in and host new events, like Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, trail cleanups, and other events to connect the different segments of the Kiwanis family.
